The annual Brooklyn festival Afropunk is coming to London soil for the first time on September 24th.

Taking place at North London’s Alexander Palace, the festival’s lineup will include M.I.A. as the headline act, with performances from Benjamin Booker, SZA, Ho99o9, Cakes Da Killa and Word Sound Power which is a collective performance featuring Akala, Don Letts and Dreadzone.

Founded by Matthew Morgan and James Spooner, Afropunk began in Brooklyn in 2005, before expanding to Atlanta and Paris in 2015.

The festival was born out of a 2003 documentary which explored race across the punk scene across the States, out of this Afropunk festival was launched and has since widened it’s audience with artistes such as Lauryn Hill, Questlove, Lenny Kravitz and Grace Jones all performing in the past.

Tickets go on sale on Friday 17th June.
