One of our time’s best voices is back… Well KeKe Wyatt has been back ever since R&B Divas: Atlanta debuted three years ago. But as she didn’t manage to drop a full-length project during her stint, this album ends the five-year hiatus between her last album Unbelievable.

Wyatt is not here to edge it up or give us complex stories. Wyatt sings about sex and love, she does what hipsters would stereotype as typical for mainstream R&B. Is that a bad thing necessarily? I believe not… Not everyone needs to adorn their songs with sometimes gimmicky storylines. Wyatt delivers some cute well-sung tracks. This album is very pleasant to your ear and thoroughly enjoyable for someone who appreciates nice vocals.

Those final Middle Eastern ad-libs on “24 Hours” are simply magnificent. “If It Ain’t You” and “If I Had You” are giving you slight Adele piano realness, while “Love Me”, reminds me of a more gritty and more urban Anastasia track. Only thing I wish, her voice wasn’t as edited and altered, it takes away some emotion.

In general Keke’s voice would harmonize so beautifully with a more organic sound and live instrumentation, like Kelly Price’s “Kelly” for example. The final and standout song of the album “It’s Reigning” could have been a real anthem, with a proper live guitar solo for example. All in all, the album is cute. Rated ‘love,’ or rated friendship, some would say this project lacks the required passion.
