So far from what we have come to love, the original TV series The Simpsons has become the longest running show on television in history. This news comes with the announcement that the show will be renewed for a 29th and 30th season, bringing The Simpsons‘ episode count to 669. They have already beaten American television Western drama series Gunsmoke‘s record-holding 635 episodes and they are still going.

According to USA Today, Fox executives celebrated,

“This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen of the Fox Television Group. “The Simpsons has meant so much to the network, the studio and everyone at Fox, and its continued cultural impact around the globe is a testament to the combined brilliance of Matt, Jim and Al. Congratulations to everyone who works on this groundbreaking series. … And to the millions of fans around the world, thank you for watching all these years. We’re happy to tell you there’s lots more to come.”

The team seems to be happy, and with no plans to end the show anytime soon, the network plans on churning out more episodes in the coming future.

Will you be watching the new season?
