Actor Jussie Smollett plays character Jamal Lyon in hit tv show, Empire on Fox, playing the gay son of Hip Hop mogul, Lucious Lyon.

Have you ever wondered the sexual orientation of Jussie Smollet? Wonder no more, as his co-star Malik Yoba who plays Vernon Turner has pulled him out, all the way out there!

In an interview with Yoba discussed the issue which still exists of homosexuality in the black community and its acceptance, and how Empire sheds light on this issue.

Which sounds innocent enough right? Well no, not exactly, and here’s why;

I think that our show represents a huge opportunity to stay in the culture beyond entertainment value and there’s an intrinsic nature of you have the gay factor, right?

So, obviously, Lee is gay. That was an important storyline for him. I think it’s important for people to see themselves. Even within the Black community.

But if you aren’t really, really taking it off of screen and making it live in the community in a significant way…like I know Jussie, he is gay, and he’s very committed to issues around the LGBT community.

Has Mr Cool Runnings put his foot in it here? That foot for sure would have been best placed in his mouth.

Now here’s the thing, this could have simply been an innocent mistake if we focus on the word “obviously” which was used.

Now does this mean that he thought everyone knew? Why is it “obvious”?

Or is it simply a case of a slip of the tongue that was too late to take it back?

Well we are choosing to go with the former idea. Yoba who also explains that he has a close friendship with Smollett may have made a mistake as he put his co-stars personal business out there. We would hate to think that he did this intentionally.

Of course, it is always down to the individual to come out when and if they’re ready! This must have been an awkward conversation between the two stars after this interview came out. Yikes!

Just days ago news circulated the web that Jussie scored a record deal with Columbia, which is great for the actor/singer.

Well one things for sure, he won’t have to face the same dilemma as his Empire character Jamal, that’s been dealt with for him already.
