Kim Burrell’s Anti-Gay Sermon Gets Her Cancelled From Ellen Brandon Carter January 3, 2017 Just when we think we’ve come so far there’s always something that pops up and reminds us how much further we have to go. 2017 is now in full effect. Arguable one of the most beloved Gospel singers of this generation has found herself in hot water after her anti-gay comments have gone viral. Kim Burrell was preaching a sermon at her Houston church and her choice of topic wasn’t in favor of the LGBT community. Award-winning gospel star Kim Burrell, who is also a pastor, can be heard preaching about her views on homosexuality in the sermon. Stating that: “”…the perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women.”” She goes on to say that if gay people don’t change their ways in 2017 they may die. And continued: ““You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted… You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”” Watch the video and judge for yourself: This is bad timing for the singer who is promoting a new song with Grammy Winner Pharrell Williams called I See A Victory off the soundtrack of the film Hidden Figures starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, & Janelle Monae. In many ways this is a situation that affects so many people. The bigger picture is a film that stars 3 talented black women who are portraying 3 extraordinary black women. In the midst of this storm are hateful remarks that came from a black woman. What are we to do with this? On a busy promotional schedule for the inspiration song, Ms. Burrell & Pharrell were to perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as we know Ellen is a proud and openly gay woman. Many people wondered how would those comments sit well with her. The talk show host made a statement via her Twitter after the gospel star refused to apologize for a sermon in which she referred to gays and lesbians as perverted. Ellen tweet read: ““For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show.”” For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show. — Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) January 3, 2017 There was no further comment from the show. Do You Think Kim Burrell’s Comments Were Freedom Of Speech Or Hate Speech? Do You Think Ellen Should Allow Her To Perform On The Show?
