Singer/Actress and Destiny’s Child Alumni, LeToya Luckett has signed on to play the smokey-voiced singer and living legend Dionne Warwick in a biopic based on Warwick’s autobiography ‘My Life As I See It’. The working title for this upcoming project is simply, Dionne and will focus on a short period in Warwick’s career in its early stages.

Warwick confirmed the news last week at the Cannes Film Festival, where she briefly spoke on choosing Luckett for the leading role. Warwick said:

“She is perfect and she has exactly the right look. She will bring out what is needed for this part.”

Not many details have been confirmed however it was being reported that fellow singer and superstar Lady Gaga had also signed on to play Cilla Black, the once music industry arch rival of Warwick in her hay-day. Also, legendary actor Danny Glover will take on the role of Dionne’s father in the film.

Lady Gaga?! Didn’t see that coming..

And apparently neither did Lady Gaga. A rep for ‘Poker Face’ pop star recently spoke to Variety magazine to deny reports of Gaga being cast as Cilla Black in the biopic based on Warwick’s life. Gaga’s publicist had this to say:

“Lady Gaga is not attached and will not appear in the project[…] Reports of Gaga starring in the project are false.”

Yikes! well this is awkward.

We must admit we were slightly disappointed to hear that Gaga isn’t going to be apart of this project. (Especially after she slayed the super bowl earlier this year) Given her massive star appeal, having the ‘Born This Way’ singer’s name attached to the film was the only thing that gave this project major Hollywood cred. However, Ms. Gaga has made it clear that, for now, we will only see her collaborate with only one of Destiny’s Children, Beyonce.

All in all, Dionne stills sounds very interesting and with a stalled music career, this is definitely a great move for Luckett to further venture off into an acting career. With a resume of impressive credentials, it would be a shame for the ‘Torn’ singer to not showcase more of her talents. Now let’s just hope it doesn’t go straight to DVD!

What are your thoughts on this story? Will you be watching Dionne?
