Following the ongoing trend of #BlackGirlMagic, a movement being used to showcase and promote significant accomplishments made by black women that are generally overlooked. Taraji P. Henson unites with R&B singer Janelle Monae and Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer for new movie Hidden Figures, to tell the story of African-American mathematician Katherine Johnson and her two colleagues, who help NASA with their first successful space mission. Thanks to their contributions, astronaut John Glenn was the first American to make a complete orbit of the Earth.

The story goes on showing the struggles of being both black and female in the late 60s. Katherine Johnson (Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Monae) use their clever and witty charm along with Johnson’s outstanding mathematical skills to work their way up the pyramid of NASA’s predominantly white male personnel.

The movie is set to be released January 13th, next year, but has already got film critics buzzing and predicting awards.
