The 2016 BET Awards premiered last night, and it was far from the EBT spectacle that we’ve have seen from the annual program in its past years.

From Queen Bey turning the stage into a full on water park to R&B singer Bilal humping the stage in honor of the late music icon Prince, this award show was definitely one to remember and we have our top performances from the biggest night in black music/entertainment.

1.Beyonce ft. Kendrick Lamar- ‘Freedom’

Beyonce opened the show and blew it out of the water, LITERALLY. Between King Bey and Kendrick Lamar it was the perfect mixture of  black empowerment and stomp the yard. With the afro-centric theme of Mrs. carter’s latest album, Lemonade, we couldn’t have asked for a better opening number and we’re pretty sure the entire front row was baptized from all of the splashing water.

2. Prince Tribute ( Erykah Badu/ Bilal & Sheila E.)

Yes. Now that is how its done! Take note Madonna. Sheila E was perfection, Erykah Badu is the complete embodiment of soul ,and although we haven’t seen R&B singer Bilal in a while he push through shut it down. The ‘Everything I do, Is For You’ singer channeled his inner Prince and brought sexy all the way back. We’re pretty we got pregnant just watching it on TV.

3. Fat Joe ft. French Montana & Remy Ma- ‘All The Way Up’

It was so great to see New York Native and Femcee, Remy Ma command a stage of this magnitude after being behind bars for so long. Now she is spittin’ bars and slanging every bit of that 40 inches of weave like the black mermaid she is. YAAAAAAS!

4. Maxwell Makes A Comeback

Before Trey Songz, Maxwell was the resident pretty boy panty-dropper and his performance last night just reminded us all  of why we need more of his music today. We’re looking forward to this new album of his!

5. Desiigner- PANDA

This is when things got LIT. We’ve seen Desiigner perform this 2016 banger on Wendy Williams and any other program that have him and he ALWAYS brings the energy. We  even had to get up out of our seats a little bit. Side note did you see him almost hit Gabrielle Union with the mic..
